2018. Where do I begin? I suppose from the beginning is the best :)

January:

j
anuary was good. Kat and I directed our church's Epiphany play. lots of fun memories were made. we pulled it off successfully, with many mess ups and laughs. the countdown to graduation began.

February:

i did my first escape room. we didn't win but we were very close. then out to pizza and over to a friend's house for a sleepover. i didn't go to bed til 3:30.

March:

i went ice skating for the first time. its not for me. MK spent most of the time trying to push me over and get me away from the wall. i was too stubborn for that tho XD the depression came back and  got the best of me this month.

April:

Easter was on April Fools this year. on April 9th, the best day of my life happened. my aunt took me to go see Damian McGinty, who is my favorite artist of all time. i got to meet him and talk to him :)
then on the 17th, I saw   Phantom of the Opera on stage for the second time. last minute graduation plans  were set into place.

May:

it was finally here. graduation month. time spent finishing up school, buying dresses, steaming gowns. mentally preparing myself to grow up. graduation came and went with tears, dancing, happiness, and lots of hugs. Catherine came out for it and we saw each other for the first time since her graduation. also started my first job babysitting at the beginning of may

June:

j
une was normal. after graduation, it was swimming, coffee, adjusting to life as it is now, wondering what the next couple of months would bring. left my job babysitting.

July:

july was more swimming, spending time with my bestie who lives 4 hours away, fireworks, watermelon, selfies, rambling far into the night,

August:

august was august, I guess. swimming, hot weather, I started my first official job at sonic the last week in august. watched a meteor shower with my besties, staying up til 2, MK left for college, there were tears but she made me laugh before she left, which is what she's best at :)

September:

more working, labor day, end of swimming season, was in the hospital for 4 hours, diagnosed with anxiety,

October:

fall! crunchy leaves, lipstick, seeing MK, shopping, visiting my grandmother.

November:

my birthday happened, officially in my last year of being a teenager. thanksgiving, thankful for all my people

December:

snow, start of cookie season, buying Christmas presents, Christmas :) family, reflecting on the past year

life things

I learned a lot about my self this year. I learned not to settle. don't just do something just because its something someone else did. I learned I am not strong by myself. I need people to lean on. I learned that you shouldn't cling to a boy because you don't see any other option. I learned depression and anxiety aren't the end of the world, they do not control you. I learned that I need to believe in myself and only then can I chase my dreams.

2019:

I've heard people choose a word at the beginning of the new year, and that word is what they try to live by throughout. i'm going to try it this year. The word I have chosen is.

Insouciant.

definition: free from worry, concern or anxiety.

throughout 2019, I am going to be insouciant. I am not going to let anxiety consume my life or dictate my actions. I am going to be fearless and chase my dreams. my life will be my own and hopefully I can find peace.

I hope 2019 is filled with love and joy and peace for all of you. I hope 2019 brings better memories and many laughs. I wish everyone a happy new year :)

Love,

Lia

Sorry I've been rather absent, everyone. Life has been kinda crazy. Catherine's here tho. For a visit :) But she's leaving tomorrow so we're gonna go do something fun!!

Lia

So...

Catherine and I may or may not be planning something

*wink*

But we need your help! Questions! Send in questions for us to answer. About our friendship, embarrassing stories (mostly my embarrassing stories hehe) anything! (well not really anything, try not to go too personal)

Can't wait to share our surprise!!!

Lia

Lia
Hii!

So remember, I was telling you all about a songwriting contest I was going to enter. Well, I missed the deadline. Which was yesterday.... In my defense on Wednesday, when I was going to send it in, my dad hit a deer and drama ensued and it was crazy. So I forgot. I thought I would share the song I was going to send with you.

Verse 1

You're gone now
Off on your own path now
Happened so fast
didn't see it comin'
What am I gonna do from here?

Chorus

What's so wrong with me
that everyone can leave so easily?
I'm not as strong as
everybody thinks I am
This morning I woke up to find
I've been left behind.

Verse 2

People keep telling me
"things will get better tomorrow"
But I've been through
too many tomorrows and nothing has changed

Bridge

I want to be happy
but something in me screams
that I don't deserve it...

Hope you like it :)
Lia
Well holy crap guys. I'm 19 now. Last year of being a teenager. Whodathunk??

I thought I would impart on you all some wisdom* I have gathered throughout my long life

(*wisdom in the sarcastic sense, don't take anything i say in this seriously)

1. Don't put too much water in the fish tank, or the fish will drown.

I can hear you all laughing. This advice was given by Catherine to her brothers, but it will stick with me. :) Go here to read the whole story XD

2. Don't waste 2 years of your life pining after someone who won't give you the time of day.

I have a problem with getting too attached. Sometimes it will take a few minutes or happen instantly. I got attached to this guy and I let it get out of hand. I still struggle now to put it behind me.

3. Surround yourself with people who make you laugh til your sides hurt.

The memories you'll make will last forever :)

4. Its only awkward if you make it awkward.

MK has been saying this to me for years.*

(*I still make it awkward tho)

5.  Its okay to not be okay.

Sometimes you need to just sit in your room and cry. You'll find you will feel better afterwards.

6. Your parents are right about everything.

They'll tell you things and maybe you'll scoff. But later you'll realize everything they were telling you was right.

7. Chocolate is the best.

It fixes everything. Fight me on this.

8. Be kind.

You never know what other people are going through.

9. Be there for your siblings.

Sometimes they drift away and before you can stop it, something bad happens.

10. Always be on your toes.

MK is always waiting to dump water on your head.

11. If you act like you know what you're doing, sooner or later, you'll figure it out.

I've done this so many times, I've lost track.

12. DON'T SEND LOVE LETTERS. EVER. PRANK OR OTHERWISE.

Trust me, you don't want to know....

13. Depression and anxiety aren't a crime.

Don't treat them as something to be ashamed of.

14. Its okay to ask for help.

Friends are there to help you and support you. Don't be afraid to rely them.

15. Treat yo'self

Within reason, of course. Don't go all crazy with your money.

16. Dance around your room with loud music once in awhile.

It helps. Plus its really fun!

17. If a friend sends you a song, really listen to it.

They're saying what they can't tell you.

18. Live in the moment.

Relish this time. It will be gone before you know it.

19. Follow your heart.

It knows what its doing, even if you don't.

There aren't many songs about 19, I wanted to put some here. Alas, i'll have to rely on an old favorite. :)

Hope you guys enjoy!!

Lia

God Only Knows---For King And Country

I have depression....

There. I said it. It took me a long time to finally admit to myself that I was depressed. I don't really know exactly what brought it on, I've never been able to figure that out. It took me even longer to tell people that were close to me that I had depression.

My family doesn't even know yet. I haven't had the courage to tell them. I finally broke down to Catherine one night, she has been one of my biggest supporters in this. I told MK shortly afterward too. She continually is always there when I need her.

Depression isn't the easiest thing to deal with, I think anyone with it can relate. There will be a day where you'll be feeling fine, then a black cloud will settle over you and suddenly you can't go on. You become an expert on the fake smile, practicing your "i'm fine" in the mirror. Acting like everything is great, but really you're dying on the inside. Depression is hell, depression isn't a phase, its a disease. Depression is screaming where nobody can hear you. Depression is falling apart without anybody noticing.

I can tell you this, its important to tell someone. I don't know if i'd even be here if I didn't have MK and Catherine to be there for me.

Anxiety has also become a part of my life. I have been medically diagnosed with anxiety. I went to the ER a couple weeks ago with heart palpitations and trouble breathing. Anxiety had taken its toll on my body. I am now on anxiety meds and I am doing ok with it.

Anxiety is staying up all night questioning if anyone actually cares. Anxiety is not feeling good enough. Anxiety is overthinking, asking over and over again if its even worth going on. Anxiety is being overwhelmed and breaking down at the smallest things. Anxiety is being exhausted from trying to be stronger than you actually are.

This is me being honest. I'm in a better mental state than I was a year ago. A year ago, I wouldn't have even dared to even try to write this in a post. I want the world to finally see that mental health needs to become a priority in our society. Too many suffer, too many take their own lives to stop it. This is my call, spread the word. Let the world know, let our voices rise in harmony.

My mental health does not define me.

FAQs What’s it about?

This linkup is to bring awareness about everyday mental health issues and how to care for them. Too often, society has been influenced by the media to make fun of, downplay and desensitize mental health. To bring negative sterotypes to light and debunk them.

How did it come about? I was inspired to start this because i myself deal with depression and anxiety. I wanted to bring mental health issues to light so we can help each other.

What are some suggested topics?

  1. Mental health care - what do you do to de-stress
  2. Debunking negative stereotypes
  3. Advice for good coping mechanisms

How long is it open for? : It is open forever.

Verse 1

I saw you one summer afternoon
The sunlight shining on your dark brown hair
You literally took my words away

Chorus
Who are you to do this to me?
Why can't I get a grip?
I hope you know someone cares
and wants the world for you
This is everything I couldn't say

Verse 2
I thought it was pretty obvious
My cheeks were red
I couldn't meet your eyes
You'll never know how much you meant to me

Bridge
I haven't seen you since that day
but I promise I won't forget you

Life Update

I have a job now. I'm working at Sonic with my sister (all the peach slushies I could ever want, Ivie :) ) So if posts are a little scattered its because of that.

Thank you guys for all the nice comments on my last post. I wrote that after I found out some things which are happening with my family right now. If you all would pray for my family, I would really appreciate that.

I actually wrote a song as well when I wrote that poetry. I'm not going to post it tho. I'm going to enter it into a contest!  Here is the post about the contest. But!! If you guys would like an exclusive sneak peek at the song, email me at catholicgirlstuff@gmail.com and I will send you the Google Doc with the song so you guys can see it!!! Also if you could give me your opinon on it, I would really love that :)

What have you all been listening to this summer??? Talk to me in the comments below!!!

Lilah

Apparently I write poetry now...….at 2am

2am
the hour of the dreamers
ideas are born, stories are told
stars are being wished upon
songs are written

but....
its the hour my demons come out to play
here's depression, there's anxiety
oh, eating disorder's here too
the problems with my family
bubble up to the surface
and pour down my face

why is the world so scary?
why does it hurt so much?
will it get better?
dear God, I hope it does...

Lilah

Verse 1
They say times are hard for dreamers
And they've got a point there
Seems like all I do is dream
And its getting me no where

Chorus
But...
I will power through
I can make it on my own
I'm stronger than you think
and you can be damn sure
that I'll try

Verse 2
We are all lost stars
trying to make it through the dark
Broken hearts, broken souls
finding our way back home

Chorus
But...
We will power through
We can make it on our own
We're stronger than you think
and you can be damn sure
that we'll try

Bridge
I'm not afraid anymore
I've unpacked my old thoughts
and closed the door

Sorry I haven't been posting, Blogger's been giving me technical difficulties. I finally got it to work!!!!

Hope you guys like it!
Lilah

Verse 1:
Life has got me down
Can't seem to get back up
I just wanna let go
and let the tide take me away

                                                                        Chorus
They say life is like a riptide
It keeps dragging me away
From the things I've always wanted
And the dreams that just won't stay

Verse 2:
So far swimming sideways
hasn't gotten me anywhere
I'm just headed for that distant shore
with all my hopes and dreams

Bridge:
I know it might take a while
But I'll get there someday
I'll reach that shore
and finally find the place where I belong.

Hope you guys like it :)
Lilah
(please don't let that title freak you out, no one actually drowned :D)

So if you were wondering why I was away for a week, its because I was away on vacation at my aunt's house with my best friend and her little sister.

B= my best friend
V=her little sister

We got to my aunt's house on Sunday, July 1. Very pale and ready for some sunshine. Spent the day there swimming in the pool and hanging with my family. After dinner, my family let to go home and my aunt took us to go see The Sound of Music in a movie theater. It was awesome!! When we first got to our seats, this man and his wife walked in and he asked her, "Is this the sing-along version?" She said no, and then he said "thank goodness." I was very tempted to say, "I could make it the sing along verson." *wink wink* Then V made me laugh during "Something Good" because she shoved our bag of Twizzlers in the backpack at the quietest part of the song.

Monday was a chill day. We all went out to dinner that night. Food was good, but after dinner went to a candy store. I bought candied larvae for my brothers, because i'm a nice sister. *falls out of chair*
I also bought some organic licorice which was the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten.

Tuesday was pretty chill too. Went to the ballpark to watch the fireworks. Arrived at the ballpark at 6 and the fireworks didn't start until 10.... It was an interesting time. It rained on us, V tried Dippin' Dots for the first time. The fireworks were totally worth it tho. They started them playing the Avengers theme, which made me tear up because Infinity War. (haha still not okay)

Wednesday was the day we didn't go anywhere. We just stayed at my aunts house doing nothing but swimming and relaxing. We went night swimming! That was fun. Also the first attempted drowning. V grabbed me and tried to drag me under. To which I resisted. #youcan'tkillme

Thursday was funny. We woke up and B came into the room and said, "there's a bunch of strange people in the pool." so we ran to the window and spied on them. I had no idea who they were so we hid up in our room for an hour. Finally, we got too hungry to hid so we went downstairs. Ate breakfast/lunch, then went outside. My aunt worked with one of the ladies and she brought her two kids and their kids to swim for a bit. The two-year-old was obsessed with us, it was so cute. They left in the early afternoon. Then Thursday night, we went shopping!! I told myself I wasn't going to buy anymore jewelry but that went out the window. I bought a lot of necklaces. (i'll post pictures when I take them ) Finally we went to Barnes and Nobles at 9 to find out they were closing. :( :( :(

Friday, my aunt took us to go see Incredibles 2 (which was awesome!!! it was funny, because there was tiny children all throughout the theater and then there was us, the big teenagers XD XD) And then, after the movie, we finally went to Barnes and Nobles. I bought 12 books, stay tuned for mini reviews!!

Saturday morning, we got up and went to the farmers market. Have I ever told you how much I love farmer's markets? After shopping, we went out to breakfast. I had the most amazing waffles. Sorry, no pictures, I ate them too fast :D

And then Sunday, it was over. B and V live 4 hours away from me, which is hard. Living far away from your best friend is difficult, to say the least. Sometimes I forget how well she knows me and then she'll say some random obscure fact about me that I didn't even remember.

I had a lot of fun. I was happy to get home tho. Although after being back for 2 weeks, I want to go back. Little brothers, amiright?

Hope you guys enjoyed!
Lilah

Not dead, if that's what you're thinking.

She's on a vaca!

...sort of?

Anyway, she won't be able to post anything this week. She also will not be responding to comments or emails, etc. She's taking a nice little internet detox. (Not by choice of course...)

So what did she do? Why is this crazy woman here?

Well, I too am on a blogging break and won't be posting for...awhile? But I answer my emails, so...

When Lilah needed someone to post something for her, she snapped off a text to me!

She asked me to come over and post something saying that she'd be away for a while, that she won't be able to post for this week at least, but she promises she'll be back before you know it and when she does, she'll be jumping back into the world of blogging again!!!! And that she loves you all and blah blah blah.

So hang tight peeps. Lilah will be back soon to brighten your day and fill your life with music, light and laughter...and probably more tangled gifs...

-Not Lilah

Ummmm hi!

Its been a while. And I apologize for that. School has been kicking me in the pants (even though I don't wear pants XD) and I honestly have had no time to blog.

Oh, and there's the little matter of graduating at the end of the week.... haha totally not stressed.

So I promise in June, you guys will get an April/May wrap up post and I will be back to posting normally!

See you then!!!

Lilah
Hi guys!

Our last collab post was basically me flailing on the floor and Catherine picking up the pieces, but this time, i’m normal! (ish)

Notice the “ish” part.

*sticks tongue out at Catherine*

*snickers*

Anyways, we have decided to do another collab post together this week - An Awkward and Awesome post on “Being in Choir”.

You see, Lia and I are part of our respective church choirs and we’ve been passing around funny stories from choir every time we chat with each other. So, we figured, why not?

Anyway, let’s get into it!!!!!!

*drumroll*

Awkward

Almost knocking someone out with my choir bag….

When you are trying to find practice tracks for some of the songs - and all the YouTube covers are either the wrong tempo, or worse in the wrong key!

Singing a wrong note and the choir director makes eye contact with you.

When one section misses an entrance and “kidnaps” another section - causing major musical mayhem!

When you make sarcastic commentary and the person in front of you hears you and laughs…..

When your choir director misses a note and takes out the entire choir!

Sounding like a 40 year old smoker after singing Holy Week. (Or coughing like crazy after a long Mass….)

The temptation to run away, hide, cringe and cry when a person is practicing….and singing flat/sharp/horrible. Bonus points if it is a family member…..

When you practice a song so many times, you hear it in your sleep. And that’s annoying.

The eye rolls we get from the director if we make a mistake again after being lectured on the correct form for doing it the first time…..

Trying to take a drink of water and slamming your head into the organ pipes….
(only me, guys, only me)

When the choir director loses his pitch pipe (or in my case, tuning fork)
(lol, that happens all the time)

Music stands are your best friends. Or your worst enemy. Case in point, accidently punching your music stand while trying to count beats. (Or they dump things all over the floor. Or they get knocked together during Mass and make a horrible racket.) (AKA giant dominos)

When a soprano (or any) section is actually timid to sing out.

When you are convinced that the composer hated your section so much that he gave it the worst line imaginable.

When the electric keyboard that the choir director uses for practice is on the fritz/dying….and much banging on it is the only way that it works again…and maybe a muffled word from the director.

Not being able to see because you are in the back row…

The let’s-find-all-the-weird-hymns-in-the-hymnal game…

Why is the water all the way over on the other side of the choir loft?????

When your chapel has the WORST acoustics in the world (in spite of it’s small size) and the director has to have everybody sing loudly in order to have any kind of a decent sound….

Raise your hand if you feel like dying after hitting the high G note….(*raises timid hand*)

Awesome

When we hit that perfect “open fifth” or chord.

The last ringing note echoing in the church

When your choir director has a wonderful sense of humor. As well as several other members of the choir.

Water is your best friend

The beautiful music pieces (ex. Sicut Cervus, Jesu Rex Admirabilis)

Walking around the choir loft barefoot
(What????) (Its carpet, it’s fine)

The inside jokes!!!!!!

Messing up the song so horribly that the whole choir erupts into giggles

The very satisfied feeling after singing wonderfully.

Being known as the musical one in your family

Your musical knowledge expands practically every practice.

Music becomes your life

Receiving Holy Communion first before everyone.

Getting a bird’s eye view of the whole church

The camaraderie that everyone in the choir has with each other! Choir parties are the best ;). (Choir is a second family!)

And the best awesome of all….glorifying God through song!

Hope you enjoyed this post!

Now it’s your turn to talk! Are you part of a choir? Did we miss any awkwards or awesomes? Please share!!

With love,

Lilah and Catherine
